BENDER, Carl Passed away peacefully at home, with family at his side, on Saturday September 6, 2014, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Helen Bender (2012). Loving father of Bonnie Lee and Chris Vargas and Ron and Jane (Amy). Special and devoted grandpa to Matthew, Erinne Lee, Leah, Sean and Jordan. Survived by his sister Louise (Feeney), brother Gilbert and sister-in-law Betty Doherty. Predeceased by his sisters Irene (Brenner) and Rita (Golds). Carl was born in Wellesley Township and was the son of the late Mathilda and Andrew Bender. He married Helen (Doherty) July 25, 1953. Carl was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi RC Church. He worked at Uniroyal for 27 years. However, his lifetime passion was his upholstery which he meticulously mastered through the countless pieces of furniture he upholstered. Dad’s handyman skills were endless and building the family cottage at Chesley Lake was a great example. His focus was his family and friends. He enjoyed socializing while playing cards and would always attend and be the biggest fan at his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. We will miss dad’s signature wave ‘good-bye’ from the front porch. The family appreciates the special love and support provided by Red Cross nurse, Donna. You were an angel for Dad and each one of us. Family and friends will deeply miss dad’s humble and gentle disposition. Carl’s family will receive relatives and friends at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener on Thursday September 11th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with prayers at 8:45p.m. Prayers will also be offered at the funeral home on Friday September 12th at 10:15 a.m. followed by a procession to St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, 49 Blueridge Avenue, Kitchener for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dan Lobsinger CR. officiating. Following internment at Parkview Cemetery, a lunch reception and family tribute will take place in the church hall. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. Visit www.henrywalser.ca for Carl’s memorial.
